They actually did it, WWE actually went and turned John Cena heel in his final year with the company. Cena won the chamber after Seth Rollins cost Punk the opportunity to win, and Cena took advantage to win the match. What happened after was brilliant. Cody came out after the match while Cena was celebrating, they shake hands and so on. Then, Rock comes out alongside Travis Scott. Once he gets into the ring, he asks Cody for his answer to the question. Will Cody Rhodes sell his soul to The Rock?
Cody Outright refuses by saying he sold his soul long ago to the business and the fans. Then tells Rock to “go f*ck yourself”, which got a great reaction, and Cena was in the background celebrating about it. When Cody and Cena embrace, Cena’s expression changes as he looks at Rock. Lets Cody go and kicks him low, and started a brutal beatdown on Cody. Rock joins in, Cena beats the hell out of him. It was a beautifully done segment, and surely has to be one of the best heel turns we have ever seen, it was absolutely incredible, and caught everyone by surprise.
This single segment makes RAW a must watch show, for the reason that, what is Cena going to say? What is that first heel promo going to look like? There is now so much excitement in regards to Wrestlemania and everything surrounding Cena vs Cody. Initially, the idea of a face vs face, Cena/Cody is just boring, because there’s no intrigue. Now all of a sudden it has been flipped on its head, the match has a burst of life now, how will Cody react? The answer should hopefully be, an angry Cody who is annoyed and ready to go to battle.
With this heel turn, WWE has made an incredibly ballsy decision. Giving the Rumble to Jey and now a Cena heel turn are two incredibly unsafe decisions, but brave. They have to be commended on it because no one thought it would ever happen. This whole show was very good too, one of the better PPV’s in recent times for WWE, and this Wrestlemania build has just shifted into high gear. Heel Cena alongside Rock, Punk vs Rollins, Rhea vs Bianca, and possibly having Iyo in there too, we’ll find out. Either way, things have been set up nicely for the next month and a half as we head into Wrestlemania, and the excitement has gone into overdrive with the way things ended at Elimination Chamber. Amazing stuff.
